1 What Athkar is
Athkar is a personal Islamic companion app: Quran reading, daily athkar (remembrance texts), prayer times, a Qibla compass, and Hajj/Umrah guidance. It is built and maintained by an independent developer, reachable at fabusafiyah@gmail.com.
Athkar has no backend server. There is nothing for your data to be sent to — everything the app needs, it computes and stores on your own device.
2 Information we access
| Data | Purpose | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Device location (GPS) | Calculate prayer times and point the Qibla compass for where you are | Stays on your device; used only in-app, in memory |
| Approximate city name | Show a human-readable place name instead of raw coordinates | Resolved by your device's own operating-system geocoding service (e.g. Google Play services on Android, Apple's location services on iOS), which may itself contact its provider to translate coordinates into a name — Athkar does not run or relay this itself |
| App preferences (language, theme), Quran bookmarks, dhikr counters, prayer-alert toggles | Remember your settings and progress between sessions | Local on-device storage only — never transmitted anywhere |
3 What we never collect
The app was built this way deliberately, not as a policy afterthought — there is no third-party SDK in Athkar capable of collecting or transmitting personal data.
4 Notifications
Prayer-time and iqama reminders are scheduled locally on your device using its operating system's notification scheduler. No push-notification server is involved, and no notification content is sent to or received from anywhere outside your phone.
5 Permissions
| Permission | Why Athkar asks |
|---|---|
| Location (fine/coarse) | Qibla direction and prayer-time calculation for your position |
| Notifications | Adhan and iqama reminders you turn on in the Prayer tab |
Every permission is optional: denying it simply falls back to Mecca-based defaults with a visible notice in the app, rather than blocking use of the rest of the app.
6 Data retention & deletion
Because everything is stored locally, deleting your data is as simple as using your phone's own controls:
- Revoke location or notification permission any time from your device's app permission settings.
- Clear saved preferences and bookmarks by clearing the app's storage/data from your device's app settings.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything Athkar ever stored.
7 Children's privacy
Athkar does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age — the app simply has no mechanism to collect or transmit it. It is suitable for a general audience including children, under the same on-device-only data handling described above.
8 Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same address with a revised effective date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the update.
